Art Club is a place where students can work on a suggested activity or one of their own liking. Instruction is always available. Currently being held on Wednesdays until further notice.

Once again, NMS is offering a Chamber Orchestra experience for those dedicated student string players looking to perform a higher level of music than offered in our regular Orchestra groups. This group will meet on Friday starting October 5th - through May 3rd, afternoons from 2:45-3:45 p.m. There will be an additional rehearsal in April. Watch Mr. Hedin's board in class for more specific information.

Intramural activities vary from year to year. After school climbing, volleyball, and skiing have been part of intramurals. All students are invited to participate. Listen/watch for announcements!

A student extension of the Rotary Club, Interact organizes fundraisers for charitable causes and performs services to the community. Meets once a week.

Jazz Band is open by audition only and meets every Monday, Wednesday in D9 from 2:45 - 4:00. As of January, Friday sectionals will be added from 2:45-3:30. Students rehearse all styles of jazz and music ranges from moderate middle school to high school. The band averages 8 performances per year which include: holiday concerts, an overnight jazz festival in New Hampshire, state wide competitions and local jazz festivals. Check the jazz band web page for updated lists of performances.

Student work is selected by the editorial staff and enhanced by the art staff. Any student may submit written work. If approved, the work is entered into the magazine, which is published in the spring. Editing meets Wednesdays, November 29th-March. Artists meet Monday’s Dec.-April.

The Newtown Middle School Math Team is ready to begin its 2018-2019 season. Students who enjoy solving math problems and competing against other schools are welcome to try out for the Math team. Team members will practice each week by doing a variety of challenging math problems. Our team will work toward developing speed and accuracy, while enhancing problem-solving skills. Team members will face opponents from area middle schools throughout Fairfield County. Try-outs will be held on Thursday, October 18th, 2:35 -3:15 p.m. in room *. Practices will be held on Thursdays, starting November 1st through mid-April.

Miss. Lang Yearbook Club will start with our first meeting on Monday, October 1, after school until 3:40. All are welcome! Please arrange a ride home; the late bus will be available later in the year. This club creates and publishes the annual Middle School Yearbook. Students are responsible for all aspects of the Yearbook, including photography, writing, and editing. Please contact Miss Lang for more information.

The Gaming Club is open to any and all students who enjoy playing card games and board games. The club will meet on Wednesday’s after school with Mr. Schupp from 2:32 to 3:45. The first meeting of The Gaming Club will be on October 11, 2017. Students may bring their own board and card games or choose one from Mr. Schupp’s collection.

Technology Club will meet after school starting in October and finishing in May. This club will emphasis in student led projects that focus on teamwork and problem solving. Students will be required to organize a ride home and hand in a completed permission slip before the club begins.
